Central question
Can recurring octopus body patterns, chromatophore changes, posture, movement, polarization-sensitive visual cues, and other observable signals be recorded and modeled well enough to test cautious two-way interaction without assuming in advance what any signal means?
Research sequence
- Capture first. Multi-angle observation and synchronized context before introducing stimuli.
- Map patterns. Identify repeated combinations and sequences without prematurely assigning meaning.
- Test cautiously. Introduce controlled visual feedback only after a stable baseline, using controls and welfare stop criteria.
- Preserve failures. Negative and null results remain part of the provenance record and refine the hypothesis.
Historical speculative ideas remain part of the project provenance, but they are not treated as established scientific premises in the public research framework.
